Washington Square Park

For the last couple of years much of the central portion of Washington Square Park has been under construction in an effort to restore and renovate portions of the park's central plaza. Much of the focus seemed to be moving the park's iconic fountain so that it is centered in park's even more iconic arch. All of this has been much to the dismay of many Greenwich Village residents who felt the update was unnecessary. NYU normally holds the University-wide commencement in the park and has moved that event to Yankee Stadium for the last two years. Much of the architecture of the park has been completely obscured during this period, and the construction barricades, debris, and activity have made the park wholly unappealing.

Finally this week the plaza and the fountain reopened and, despite the grousing of the old guard, the improvements are spectacular and the fountain is magnificent. I heard about the opening and then went to see it at lunch on Thursday. I let Jes know and she and Colton headed over to check things out on Friday morning.

It's all just one more reason we love raising kids in this city.

What a beautiful park. Colton just seems to be growing like a weed and is just too cute. Wonderful pictures.
